The Taste of Christmas

Moved when I switched from my website: OurArmyFamily.com. Original publish date: November 4, 2010.
Not only is it beginning to look a lot like Christmas and the stores are filled with the sound of Christmas music playing, but the tastes of Christmas are here! While some people may be dismayed that so much of Christmas is around when we haven’t even hit Thanksgiving yet; however, I am DELIGTHED…especially over the food! Many of our favorite treats are found only for that short time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. In an attempt to bring in more profits, food companies have begun to introduce these treats earlier. I was happy to find Costco’s pumpkin pie sold in October. Now, we are barely in November and not only have I found grocery store treats such as eggnog, mint chocolate coffee creamer, and peppermint ice cream, but I was also happily surprised to walk into Chik-fil-A and find that they are already serving their Peppermint Chocolate Shakes.  The real surprise was to see Peppermint Mochas already on Starbuck’s menu…even in the land of coffee (Washington State) we used to have another long month of waiting as the elusive Peppermint Mocha wouldn’t be available until after Thanksgiving. It was a great way to start a Black Friday shopping trip.
The moral of this short story…the Christmas treats are out- indulge a little! Realistically, having the treats around for a longer period is actually healthier too as we are less likely to over indulge when we know these special food will be around a while.
Feel free to share your Christmas treat of choice…what seasonal food do you love and think that others should try? I’m always looking for new things!
